At 16 years old, you are now allowed to ride a 50cc moped with a maximum speed of 28 miles per hour.
From this point on you can ride your 50cc with front & rear L-plates and you must not carry any pillions.

After you have successfully passed the CBT training course you can ride your 125cc machine with front & rear L-plates and you must not carry any pillions.
Once that is out of the way, you could complete your A1 licence by taking the motorcycle theory and practical test – this will allow you to remove the L-plates and you will be able to carry a pillion.

You still have the option to stop here and continue riding your 125cc machine with front & rear L-plates and you must not carry any pillions, however you could continue on the route to complete your A2 licence.
The A2 licence will require you to complete the theory and practical test – upon passing these you will get access to any motorcycle with a maximum power output of 35kW (or 47 BHP), or 70kW with a restriction kit fitted.
Once you’ve reached 21 years old and you have held your A2 licence for 2 years you will be eligible to take your A licence.
If your 24 years old (or older) all of the motorcycle licence doors are open to you. Similarly to all of the above you will need to start your journey with a CBT training course.
If you would like to, you could stop here and continue riding your 125cc machine with front & rear L-plates and you must not carry any pillions, however you could continue on the route to complete your A licence.
You will need to complete the theory and practical test in order to pass, however once you have passed both of these you will be legally allowed to ride any motorcycle or scooter with no power restrictions.
